Custom Commands & Tags

Your own slash commands, and lightweight saved snippets.

Which to use

A custom command is a real slash command. It appears in Discord’s command list with its own description and can reply with text or a full embed. Discord caps a server at 100 commands, so Bonki allows 50 custom ones.

A tag is a saved snippet shown with /tag show, with autocomplete. There is no practical limit, so use tags for the long tail.

Controls

A command can be limited to certain roles, blocked from others, restricted to particular channels, given a cooldown, or made to reply privately to whoever ran it.

Worth knowing

Neither reads your chat. Triggering on something like !rules typed in a channel would require Discord’s privileged message-content access, which is a serious permission to hold for a canned reply. Slash commands need none of it.
