Welcome & Goodbye

Greet people when they arrive, and note when they leave.

Setting it up

Pick a channel, choose how the message should look, and write it. There are three looks:

  • Plain text, just a message. Good for small servers where an embed feels heavy.
  • Embed, a bordered card with a title, description, images and fields.
  • Card image, a generated picture with their avatar, name and member number.

The live preview shows exactly what will be posted, with your own account standing in for the new member. Send test message posts the real thing into the channel.

Placeholders

Anywhere you can type, you can use placeholders like {user.mention}, {user.name}, {server.name} and {server.memberCount}. The full list is under the message box.

A placeholder you have mistyped renders literally rather than vanishing, so you can see the mistake instead of wondering where the text went.

Worth knowing

Card colours look after themselves. The text switches between white and near-black depending on the accent you pick, so no colour can produce a card you cannot read.

Cards need “Attach Files” in the channel, since a card is an image. The channel picker flags it if the permission is missing.

A welcome message can never ping everyone. Whatever you write, and whatever a new member has set as their display name, Bonki only ever pings the member themselves.
