Roles

Self-serve role menus, roles given on join, and roles that survive a leave.

Role menus

A role menu is a message members click to give themselves roles. Build it in the dashboard, then publish it to a channel.

Buttons suit a handful of options; a dropdown suits more. You can cap how many a member may pick at once, or make it single-choice so picking one swaps out the last.

Editing a published menu updates the message in place. Deleting one removes the message from Discord too.

Auto-role and sticky roles

Auto-role gives new members a role when they join, optionally after a delay, useful if you have Discord’s membership screening on, since the role waits until they have actually accepted the rules.

Sticky roles give a member their roles back if they leave and return. This is how a muted member cannot clear a mute by rejoining.

Worth knowing

Bonki’s own role has to sit above any role it hands out. Discord refuses otherwise, and it is the single most common reason a role menu looks broken. Drag Bonki up in Server Settings → Roles.

A role that is managed by another integration, a bot role, or Nitro Booster, cannot be assigned by anyone, including Bonki.
