Leveling

XP for taking part, with levels, rewards and leaderboards.

How XP works

Members earn a random amount of XP per message, within a range you set, with a cooldown so a burst of messages does not pay more than a conversation. Messages are the only thing that earns XP, so levels track taking part rather than being present.

The settings page shows roughly how long reaching level 10 takes at your current numbers, because “15 XP per message” means nothing on its own.

Rewards and multipliers

Role rewards grant a role at a level. You can let them stack, or replace the previous tier so a member only ever holds their current rank.

Multipliers boost XP for particular roles or channels. Where a member matches several role multipliers, the highest applies rather than all of them multiplied together.

Leaderboards

Off by default. While off, /leaderboard says leaderboards are not available and the web page returns a 404, so nobody can even confirm the server uses Bonki.

Turn it on and members appear by their nickname here. Rankings are per server and always have been: a server sets its own XP rates, so there is no honest way to compare a member of one against a member of another.

/rank works either way, your own level is yours to see.

Moving from MEE6

/xp import reads MEE6’s public leaderboard for your server and brings everyone across. Make the leaderboard public in MEE6 first, run the import, then turn it back off. XP comes over as-is and levels are recalculated on Bonki’s curve, so a few people may sit a level either side of where MEE6 had them.
